The Hong Kong Council of Social Service (The Council), as a social housing intermediary platform, has been actively promoting a social housing movement since 2017. The Council has implemented the "Community Housing Movement" and the "Modular Social Housing" projects so far and engaged different community stakeholders into the movement. Both projects make use of idle properties or lands to conduct various social housing experiments. Meanwhile, different social welfare organizations and social enterprises are engaged as service operators to incorporate a wide variety of people-based, innovative social service elements into social housing. The social housing movement initiated by the community aims to increase housing supply, enhance the living quality of grassroots families, and build a small community through the provision of social services to enhance the capacity and participation of residents.
1st – 16th November 2019 at Kwun Tong, and the theme is “How far can we fly?” to display different social housing experiments in Hong Kong and other parts in the world with innovative housing service to stimulate more imagination and explore feasibility of various social housing experiments. Activities include conference, roundtable, design competition, music party, community screening, social housing exhibition, workshop and DIY sessions. Different community stakeholders are invited to participate and join promoting social housing movement. Attached please find the event poster and details are as follows:

Introduction of Conference & Roundtable
There are many social housing experimenters and operators in Hong Kong who pursue and practice social housing with different experiences and techniques. They have innovative achievements in aspects of housing policy, housing type, construction and renovation technique, and social service. The Council has invited different experimenters and operators to share in seminars and roundtables, and experience sharing from worldwide to stimulate more imagination and feasibility of social housing experiment. Introduction of Competition
“Space Transformation” Design Competition, focusing on community facility creation, is one of the key events of Social Housing Festival to connect youth and the community. The competition aims to inspire youth’s creativity and provide a valuable opportunity for the youth to design and transform modular units into innovative community facility.
